چکیده

We present a system for molecular spectroscopy using a broadband mid-infrared laser with near-infrared detection. Difference frequency generation of a Yb:fiber femtosecond laser produced a mid-infrared (MIR) source tunable from 2100–3700 cm−1 (2.7–4.7 μm) with average power up to 40 mW. The MIR spectrum was upconverted to near-infrared wavelengths for broadband detection using a two-dimensional dispersion imaging technique. Absorption measurements were performed over bandwidths of 240 cm−1 (7.2 THz) with 0.048 cm−1 (1.4 GHz) resolution, and absolute frequency scale uncertainty was better than 0.005 cm−1 (150 MHz). The minimum detectable absorption coefficient per spectral element was determined to be 4.4 × 10−7 cm−1 from measurements in low pressure CH4, leading to a projected detection limit of 2 parts-per-billion of methane in pure nitrogen. In a natural atmospheric sample, the methane detection limit was found to be 30 parts-perbillion. The spectral range, resolution, and frequency accuracy of this system show promise for determination of trace concentrations in gas mixtures containing both narrow and broad overlapping spectral features, and we demonstrate this in measurements of air and solvent samples. High-power broadband laser source tunable from 3.0 μm to 4.4 μm based on a femtosecond Yb:fiber oscillator.

We describe a tunable broadband mid-IR laser source based on difference-frequency mixing of a 100 MHz femtosecond Yb:fiber laser oscillator and a Raman-shifted soliton generated with the same laser. The resulting light is tunable over 3.0 μm to 4.4 μm, with a FWHM bandwidth of 170 nm and maximum average output power up to 125 mW. The noise and coherence properties of this source are also invest...

Two-color fiber amplifier for short-pulse, mid-infrared generation.

A short-pulse, two-color Yb:fiber laser system has been developed for mid-infrared generation. To date, 20 microW of average power at a wavelength of approximately 18 microm is generated by difference-frequency mixing 300 mW average power from the two-color Yb:fiber amplifier. The mid-infrared power was not limited by two-photon absorption, allowing it to be scaled by increasing the amplifier p...

Upconversion luminescence from 2E state of Cr3+ in Al2O3 crystal by infrared femtosecond laser irradiation.

Visible upconversion luminescence was observed in Cr3+: Al2O3 crystal under focused femtosecond laser irradiation. The luminescence spectra show that the upconversion luminescence originates from the 2E-4A2 transition of Cr3+. The dependence of the fluorescence intensity of Cr3+ on the pump power reveals that a two-photon absorption process dominates in the conversion of infrared radiation to t...

Broadband mid-infrared frequency upconversion and spectroscopy with an aperiodically poled LiNbO3 waveguide.

We convert a mid-infrared frequency comb to near-infrared wavelengths through sum-frequency generation with a 1.064 μm CW laser in an aperiodically poled ZnO:LiNbO(3) waveguide. Upconversion of light in the range of 2.5-4.5 μm to 0.76-0.86 μm is demonstrated in a single device, and the efficiency of the conversion is measured across this bandwidth. We additionally characterize the spatial mode ...
